The new album is off and running. May and June have really just been a couple of wonderful months. The new Paste came out with "Late Last Night" as lucky number 13 on the sampler (Scarlett Johansson is on the cover), and there was even an article about Gatlinburg, Tennessee in the magazine, which is where in high school we used to go to do a lot of underage drinking, where I totally blew it with a really hot girl, and where I once bought a huge knife that we called the "bear knife." It was black and beautiful, and it was taken from me by an older person in authority. That's right Cory, I don't forget
I went to the Kerrville Folk Festival at the end of May, where I was in the New Folk Songwriting Competitiion, and I won! I'm so honored to be included in that company, it was such an amazing experience. Also, it turns out that it now costs approximately $150 one way to get from Nashville to southern Texas in my piece of crap Jetta, so a good majority of the prize money was well spent on supporting the oil industry. What a strange contrast driving to distant folk festivals has become. Annie and I detoured through New Orleans on the way back and has beignets on the second morning of the return trip.. totally worth the 3 extra hours of travel. Despite everything, it's still the most beautiful city in the country.
I also just found out last week that I've been selected to play in the Emerging Artist Showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in the Berkshires, which is another great honor for a relatively green folk singer/songwriter. Can't wait to get up there next month.
I got my hands on some new tools for booking, and I'm working on booking some extensive touring starting in September where I'll be driving out to the East Coast for about 3 weeks. If you know of a venue where you think i would fit, let me know. So far I've booked shows in West Virginia, Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, and Maryland, and I'm working on filling in others as well. You can see the full schedule on my main page (don't forget to scroll down).
I've got some new videos up from Kerrville of both myself and some of the other performers. You can always find the things I put on youtube on the channels youtube.com/robbyhecht and youtube.com/robbyhechtvideos, the first is general videos that I've posted and of other performers, and the latter is videos of me. I've put up performances from the festival by Devon Sproule, Hans York, and Bob Sima, as well as a couple of mine. Here's one that I did of a brand new song that I decided to play about 3 minutes before I went on. This was the first time I'd ever played it in public
Thank so so much to everyone who's purchased the new record, it means so much to me. I hope you love it as much as I do. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Robby
